Easiest Way to Peel Garlic

For those who know me, I use garlic in all my recipes. A lot of it. There are two options to get this garlic. A jar of minced garlic which is pretty expensive, or whole cloves which go for as low as $2 a pound. Anyone who has peeled garlic knows the skin doesn't always come off easily. Here are two easy ways to peel garlic.

First - If you have a kitchen knife - something with a relatively long blade - This one is simple. Take your knife and cut the tips off both ends of each piece of garlic. After cutting the ends, place the flat part of the knife over the garlic clove and hit it with the bottom of your palm, where your hand meets the wrist. This does two things. It separates the skin from the garlic and crushes it slightly, allowing its flavors to flow into food during the use of it.

The second option - Take a cup of cold water. Add 2 ice cubes to it. Again, cut the tips off of each clove of garlic. After cutting them put them in the cup of water. Let them sit for 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes, remove the garlic. The skin should peel off easily.

Once skinned, you can mince the garlic or use them for your purposes. Enjoy!
